For the green DME clean fuel and compound business, biomethanol was received and used from the first trial run of the 2nd plant.

In August, 31 BioFriends successfully completed the completion ceremony of the Boeun 2 plant and conducted a trial run with Biomethanol on September 1 of the following day.

Currently, DME is mainly used for human and medical purposes in the aerosol market, and interest in green DME, a carbon neutral or low-carbon eco-friendly raw material manufactured from captured CO2, is rising in the industry as it is looking for alternatives to raw materials such as greenhouse gas reduction and carbon tax due to abnormal climate worldwide. Meanwhile, domestic and foreign chemical and transportation companies are also making efforts to secure carbon neutral raw materials, and more and more people are looking for Green DME as a substitute for Freon gas, which is mainly used in aerosols, foaming agents, and refrigerants. In response, Korea's BioFranz Co., Ltd. is pursuing a project to produce 100,000 tons of green methanol per year and 30,000 tons of green DME per year in 2030, and is trying to secure a business that enters the refrigerant and fuel markets, not limited to the aerosol market. As part of the Carbon Neutrality Project, the first trial run of Plant 2 began with the manufacture of Biomethanol for the production of Biomethanol, which will be used for fuel in its first start.

“After completing the second plant of Biofriends Inc. at the end of August, we will introduce biomethanol and commercially produce 30 tons of green DME per month and sell it to the domestic and overseas aerosol market, thereby contributing to the carbon neutral business. It will be of great help in entering the market. In particular, when used as agricultural and marine fuel, it is expected to contribute to the carbon neutral and low-carbon fuel supply project as E-Fuel,” explained Wonjun Cho, CEO of Biofriends Inc.
